Pepe Lopez Tequila ad, 1978

14 February 2023

Forget the oysters, I’ve got you covered if you’re looking for a cheekier aphrodisiac. The perfect valentine’s day aperitif, these margaritas are so tasty that you can never have just one, so dare to play a little dangerously and have a few…. (Never consume responsibly)

  • Tequila Blanco

  • Cointreau

  • Fresh Limes

  • Agave Syrup

  • Salt

  1. Firstly, whack on some Silk Sonic, light a candle or two and clear a countertop.

  2. Start by pouring a decent amount of salt onto a dish, before rimming your glass with a juicy wedge of fresh lime.

  3. Carefully roll the edges of your glass onto the salt, so that it’s evenly covered all the way around. This requires a steady hand, so if you’re a little shaky with first date nerves, perhaps ask your counterpart to do this for you.

  4. Pour equal parts Tequila, Cointreau and freshly squeezed lime into your shaker. (For 2 people, that would be 50ml of each, add an extra 25ml of each per extra person)

  5. Squeeze a small drop of agave syrup into your mix, how much is up to you dependent on whether you like your margaritas on the more bitter/sweet side.

  6. Add a handful of ice, close up your shaker and shimmy harder than your drunk auntie at a wedding.

  7. Pour into your salt rimmed glass, garnish with a slice of lime and enjoy!

Rosie’s tip: There’s nothing like a little healthy competition to spark a fun bit of flirtation. If, like me, you love to make anything extra spicy….be a little adventurous and test your date’s tolerance with a dash of jalapeño tabasco and a slice of fresh jalapeño to garnish!
